SHIN-NY Patient Privacy

For more information on the SHIN-NY and patient privacy, visit our FAQ page. Frequently Asked Questions

NYeC and the SHIN-NY strongly believe in the importance of patient data privacy. When a patient opts in to sharing their health data within the SHIN-NY, their information is protected under HIPAA, SHIN-NY Privacy & Security policies, national data exchange and security standards such as HITRUST, and other applicable federal and state laws.

SHIN-NY health records are not publicly accessible. Only the patient can decide which providers can access their health records. If a patient decides they no longer wish to give access to any or all providers, they may opt-out at any time via the specific QE that their provider is connected through. Each QE maintains a public listing of all provider participants on their website.
