NYeC APPOINTS KATHRYN HASLANGER TO BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Jewish Association Serving the Aging CEO Brings
Background Working in Healthcare Policy, Research, Delivery
ALBANY, NY – Jewish Association Serving the Aging leader Kathryn Haslanger joined the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) Board of Directors, expanding the board’s expertise and range of experience.
“I’ve known Kathryn for many years, going back to her time with the United Hospital Fund and the creation of Disaster Relief Medicaid after 9/11. She has made a positive difference and has helped improve the health of many through her various leadership roles in different sectors,” said Valerie Grey, Executive Director, NYeC. “She is a dynamic leader and we all look forward to her strategic guidance as we continue to strengthen health information exchange across the state.”
Ms. Haslanger is the Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Association Serving the Aging (JASA), one of New York’s leading providers of aging services, reaching 43,000 older adults with social, recreational, health, housing, cultural, and educational services.
“As JASA’s CEO, Ms. Haslanger has first-hand knowledge of what is and is not working for providers,” said David Klein, Chair, NYeC Board of Directors. “Her extensive experience to help affect change in care delivery will be a great asset to our Board as we work to advance the state’s health information exchange network to benefit all New Yorkers.”
The current NYeC board features a broad group of healthcare leaders with decades of experience in state and federal policy, hospitals and health systems, long-term care, behavioral health, advocacy groups, health plans, and patient engagement to help guide the advancement of the State Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY). The SHIN-NY connects the state’s eight regional networks—Bronx RHIO, HealtheConnections, HEALTHeLINK, Healthix, HealthlinkNY, Hixny, NYCIG, and Rochester RHIO—to allow for real-time electronic health information exchange.
“It is an honor to join the NYeC board and to advance the important work of connecting social care and healthcare in New York,” said Ms. Haslanger.
Before JASA, Ms. Haslanger was Senior Vice President, Community Benefit and External Affairs, at the Visiting Nurse Service of New York, leading strategy and developing new initiatives to benefit communities, including a state-designated health home to serve high-need Medicaid beneficiaries. She also worked on initiatives to coordinate care for those with multiple chronic illnesses as the Vice President of Health Policy and Practice at Maimonides Medical Center. As the Vice President of Health Policy at the United Hospital Fund of New York, she directed the organization’s analytics work in Medicaid, health insurance coverage, and primary care and coordinated efforts to enroll 340,000 New Yorkers in Disaster Relief Medicaid in the wake of September 11th.
Trained in law and policy analysis, Ms. Haslanger holds honors degrees from Brown University, Boston College Law School, and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. She serves on the board of The Commonwealth Fund.
