ALBANY, NY — The New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) today announced the appointment of two new members to the organization’s Board of Directors, each of whom bring decades of experience in health information technology and healthcare policy along with proven records of applying innovation and strategy to improve care.

Jeffrey Kraut, Executive Vice President, Strategy and Analytics at Northwell Health, and Dr. Matthew Shafiroff, former Vice President of Medical Informatics for Stellaris Health Network, will begin serving on the NYeC Board as it continues its work to improve healthcare through the use of health information exchange.

“As part of our ongoing effort to ensure voices from every part of the healthcare community are present in our organization, we are thrilled to welcome Mr. Kraut and Dr. Shafiroff to the Board,” said David H. Klein, Chairman of the NYeC Board of Directors. “Their knowledge of both the healthcare industry and the use of health information technology to improve patient outcomes will be invaluable as we continue working to help providers across New York deliver high-quality, evidence-based care.”

Mr. Kraut has helped organize the next generation of business and clinical analytics throughout the Northwell Health system and is renowned for his skills in health planning, policy, and analytics. In addition to his work at Northwell Health, he also serves as Associate Dean for Strategy for the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and as Chair of the New York State Public Health and Health Planning Council. He formerly served on the board of Healthix, the largest Qualified Entity in New York.

“I am honored to be joining the NYeC Board of Directors, and supporting the organization’s efforts to advance the Statewide Health Information Network for New York,” said Kraut. “The work done at NYeC is helping to keep patients safe and improve outcomes, and I’m proud to be a part of their work to continue fostering interoperability between New York’s providers.”

Dr. Shafiroff is Co-Chair of HANYS’ Health Information Technology (HIT) Strategy Group where he works to identify high-priority HIT issues for review, collaboratively problem solving and sharing best practices with CIOs, CMIOs, and physicians in New York State. While at Stellaris Health, he helped the organization’s healthcare teams implement cost-effective technology solutions to improve patient care and operational efficiency, including introducing electronic prescriptions for controlled substances. He is also a members of the American Hospital Association’s Interoperability Advisory Group, which assists members in establishing information sharing methods and eliminating barriers to communication between providers.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join my fellow NYeC board members in their work to revolutionize New York’s health information sharing system,” said Dr. Shafiroff. “Better communication between providers translates directly to better care for patients, and projects such as the SHIN-NY are key to advancing health information exchange across both New York and the healthcare industry as a whole.”
