New York eHealth Collaborative CEO Valerie Grey Announces Her Departure Later This Year

“Valerie’s vision, commitment and leadership strengthened health information exchange in New York, helped improve health for New Yorkers, and positions the SHIN-NY network for continued success and innovation”

ALBANY, NY – New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) Board Chair John D. Bennett, MD (President and CEO, Capital District Physicians’ Health Plan) announced today that NYeC CEO Valerie Grey will be departing at the end of the year. A national search has begun for her successor to allow for a seamless leadership transition. Grey assumed leadership of NYeC in September 2016.

“After a long and accomplished career in government, healthcare and the private sector, Valerie brought her incredible drive and talents to NYeC and the SHIN-NY (Statewide Health Information Network for New York) and we are better today because of it,” Dr. Bennett said. “Valerie’s vision, commitment and leadership strengthened health information exchange in New York, helped improve health for New Yorkers, and positions the SHIN-NY network for continued success and innovation.”

The SHIN-NY was created by New York State to allow healthcare professionals statewide to share patients’ clinical information, enabling collaboration and coordination of care to improve health outcomes, reduce unnecessary and avoidable tests and procedures, and lower costs. Based on current participation and use, the SHIN-NY is associated with reductions in unnecessary health care spending across the state of roughly $200 million annually with significantly higher savings if the system were fully utilized.

“In partnership with the State, Board, regional exchanges and stakeholders, Valerie spearheaded the development and execution of the 2020 SHIN-NY Roadmap. The network and data sources were expanded, the pandemic response leveraged our infrastructure, the enterprise was used in new ways to reduce administrative burden and improve quality of care, our policies were modernized, work to support social determinants of health needs is underway, and much more.” Dr. Bennett said. “We will miss Valerie and wish her the best in her future endeavors.”

“It has been my honor and privilege to work with such a dedicated and talented team of individuals and organizations that comprise the whole person health and SHIN-NY ecosystem. It has been a challenging and rewarding journey.” Valerie Grey said. “Together, we have accomplished amazing things and I’m confident health information exchange in New York will continue to evolve and provide tremendous value.”
