Final State Budget Supports Critical Tools for Healthcare Transformation Through Funding for Information Network
ALBANY, N.Y. – The New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC) applauded the newly adopted New York State Budget for continuing critical funding for the Statewide Health Information Network for New York (SHIN-NY).
Through the SHIN-NY, clinical information and health records for millions of patients can be accessed by participating providers across the state—allowing care teams to better manage the healthcare of patients and collaborate for better care.
“By including this key funding, Governor Cuomo and Legislative Leaders in the Senate and Assembly recognize the tremendous value the SHIN-NY brings to New York’s healthcare system and its patients,” said Valerie Grey, Executive Director of NYeC. “We thank the state for its ongoing dedication to improving and enhancing this program in communities across the state. These funds will ensure NYeC and our partners can continue our mission of maximizing the full potential of health information to improve patient care and population health.”
NYeC is a not-for-profit organization working in partnership with the New York State Department of Health to collaboratively lead and coordinate the SHIN-NY—a network of eight regional qualified entities (QEs) that provide health information exchange. The goal is to support delivery system reform, improving healthcare for patients in all communities.
“This continued investment in the SHIN-NY is smart and forward-looking,” said David H. Klein, NYeC Board of Directors Chair and Special Advisor to the University of Rochester Medical Center CEO, Professor of Public Health Sciences, and Executive Professor of Healthcare Management. “As we work to improve ongoing operations we are also focused on the development of a multi-year strategic plan for the next evolution of the SHIN-NY, we are grateful for the Governor and Legislature’s ongoing commitment to all New Yorkers and their healthcare providers.”
